Stone Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are not a new concept. They’ve been around for thousands of years, and for good reason. While they are often used for added support for areas around the yard that may be prone to erosion, it can help keep a level ground for whatever you need it for. In the Kona area, we experience an average of 2″-3″ of rain per month, and certain areas around your home/business may experience runoff. Without a retaining wall, these areas may wash away over time and no longer have the desired effect of being flat.

To play off what we will discuss with the patio/walkways, most clients want their retaining walls to appear natural to their environment. With this, we usually use lava rock as our stone for these walls. Retaining walls also don’t need to be straight, adding a curve to hug your landscape adds to the natural look and feel!

Stone Walkways & Patios

Patios and walkways serve many purposes but our favorite is that it brings people together outdoors. Living in Hawaii, we can sometimes take our climate for granted. Once you’ve got the patio set up, adding in walkways can really tie a yard together.

Walkway Installation In Kona

Walkways can add an aspect of safety to your journey around your home. Instead of walking out of the house through the yard to your driveway, having a set place to step enhances both the beauty and safety. Think about it, how often do you walk outside barefoot just “to grab something”?

Styles Of Walkways

While there can be many different styles of stone use, we usually use lava rock for these projects. Stone that appears natural to the area gives your walkway it’s best chance to seem as if it were there for a very long time. Of course, there isn’t really a better stone for Kona and the rest of Hawaii than lava rock!
